  Arizona State Requirements for Home Inspectors Printer Friendly Version
 
The information contained below is designed to provide a summary of the minimum education, experience and examination requirements established by the Arizona Board of Technical Registration (AZBTR). For more detailed information, please contact the Board. Graduation of AREA’s course is recognized for a free 1 year membership in the National Association of Home Inspectors (NACHI) obtaining full benefits, and discounted membership in the Housing Inspection Foundation (HIF) .
 
Home Inspector - Initial License
Licensure Requirements - All applicants for an Arizona Home Inspector license must:  
  Complete an 80 hour course approved by the BTR and that covers the required areas as stated in R4-30-247.
  Successfully complete a written examination demonstrating adequate knowledge of performing home inspections. The National Home Inspectors Examination will be administered by the Examination Board of Professional Home Inspectors. Examination must be completed within 2 years before the date of application.   Have work experience as a home inspector, and complete at least 100 home inspections or 30 parallel inspections. Please see R4-30247-A for more information. These inspections should be evident on your log and should include required items that are on the report checklist .
  File an accurate, complete application for license, appropriate fee of $90.00,  completion results from National Home Inspector examination, proof of completed approved education, legible log of completed home inspections , an original home inspection report, 2 fingerprint cards, proof of financial insurance and any applicable background forms required for prior criminal history. Completed applications and information should be mailed to the BTR. Incomplete applications will not be processed. Certificate Renewal
Licenses expire annually from the date issuance. The renewal fee of $310.00 along with the renewal application must be submitted to the Board prior to the expiration of your current license. You can also renew online at BTR Renewal Login.
